The background colour is a consistent colour or pattern that doesn't vary, so that the design will not intrude on the label beside it.

The gap between the edge of the page and the label may be too small to print.

Check your printer margins that all your artwork will print on the sheet. Most printers can not print to the edge of the page and will leave an unprinted edge on the page. Backgrounds may not work, this varies from printer to printer.
